- ABOUT THE ITEM -
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the main airport serving Los Angeles and the surrounding metropolitan area. Located 18 miles from downtown Los Angeles, LAX was the fourth busiest airport in the nation in 2018 by passenger volume. It's the largest and busiest international airport on the West Coast and a major gateway to the United States. The airport serves as a main hub for more airlines than any other airport in the United States and has become a main connection point for regional carriers flying to other cities across the country. Opened in 1930, the airport was originally called Mines Field with the name changing to Los Angeles Airport in 1941 after the city of Los Angeles purchased it to be a municipal airport. The name was later changed to Los Angeles International airport in 1949 with carriers shifting operations from surrounding airports to the newly named airport.
