Eglin Air Force Base (KVPS) is a United States Air Force base located in the Florida panhandle. The base is home to the 96th Test Wing, the unit responsible for testing and evaluation of air-delivered weapons. Eglin AFB was established in 1935 as Valparaiso Bombing and Gunnery Base, it was later renamed in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Frederic I. Eglin (1891-1937).
