Sheppard Air Force Base (KSPS) is a United States Air Force base located 5 miles north of the downtown Wichita Falls, Texas. It's home to the 82d Training Wing (82 TRW). It's the largest and most diversified base under the Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The 80th Flying Training Wing (80 FTW) is also based at the facility. Sheppard AFB was named in honor of US Senator John Morris Sheppard and began as a US Army Air Corps training center on October 17, 1941.
